Day 69-Relocate to London

Gosh I had a great night of sleep last night in a comfy bed in a room by myself!

So I was awake at about 7.00 am and showered and ready for breakfast at the local cafe by 8.00am

The plan for the day was to say goodbye to Chris after breakfast and make our way to the Kemble railway station about 4 km away from Cirencester and catch the train to London.

We said our fond farewells to Chris at about 9.00 am as he made his way to Steve B’s house where he was staying the night. His plans after that are fluid as he has a couple of weeks before he flys home…. He thinks he might go riding in the Lakes District. It was a bit sad to say goodbye as Chris has been a great friend and chief navigator for the adventure!

Steve S and I caught up on phone calls back home in Oz for about an hour before making our way to the Kemble station. It was cool with drizzling rain but we negotiated the ride quite comfortably. It is interesting that the bigger town of Cirencester has no rail connection and the much smaller hamlet of Kemble does….seems that Cirencester did not embrace railways when they were being built in the 1800’s …

The train trip to London was about an hour and a half and we arrived at Paddington at about 2.00 pm. The ride to the Generator hostel took about another half an hour. Once again the trusty cycle.travel gave us good directions to our destination. I had navigation responsibilities which was good as I had a rough idea where we were headed.

The check in was simple and after changing from our riding gear Steve and I did a walking tour around a few of the London sights. We did a loop which took in Australia House, The Strand, Horseguards, Parliament House, Westminster Abbey, 10 Downing St, The London Eye, Pall Mall, Trafalgar Square, Buckingham Palace, Bond Street, Piccadilly, and other places…

It was a walk of about 7 kms so by the end we were quite tired and hungry. Dinner was lasagna at a local cafe.

It was a good day but I am feeling as though I want to go home after 69 days on the road.

The pictures today are reasonably self explanatory as they are mostly of our walk around London… enjoy!
