Day 6- Castel Sant Alia to Attigliano

Today was supposed to be an easier ride….

We started out at about 7.30 am after a good breakfast at the cafe on the main road that looked after us yesterday when we arrived early for our accommodation. Breakfast was a croissant and cappuccino.

On the first part of the ride we made good progress on a lovely bitumen road where there was little traffic.

The first stop for morning tea at Corchiano where we had a cool drink and fruit as the day was starting to get hot. By this stage we had completed 1 of the 6 climbs for the day and the temperature was in the high twenties.

After refreshing ourselves it was on again through some lovely farming country with a couple more moderate climbs.

We made our lunch stop at Orte which is a lovely medieval town perched at the top of a hill….. seems in Italy that most of the towns are at the top of the hills unfortunately!

Lunch was in a cafe in the village square opposite the church which was over 350 years old. Lunch for me was a serving of sliced meat and cheese, the others had tagliatelle pasta. We had plenty to drink as the temperatures soared near 30 degrees and we needed to fuel up for the 20 km push to our final destination!

Yes…. And what a 20 km it was! There were 3 hills which combined to about 500 metres of climbing! In some parts the gradient was in excess of 18% and I respite walking my bike!

To be frank I was feeling very hot as the heat and humidity rose!

At the end of the journey we found a hotel near our accommodation to have a refresher…. It was well deserved.

Tonya’s are staying in a 2 bedroom apartment which is quite comfortable and the cost for the 3 of us for the night is 97 Euros or about $150 or $50 each for the night. The owner of the apartment couldn’t have been more helpful in making us feel comfortable and welcome.

it was a big day of climbing today with over 1000 metres climbed in a total of 57 kms of riding.
