Day 49- Beauvais to Amiens

We awoke at 6.00 am to a beautiful sunrise outside the window of our apartment.

After some muesli and juice it was off to the local Boulangerie for a croissant and coffee ahead of leaving for our ride to Amiens.

We set off at about 7 am. The weather was cool to start off with but warmed up as the day went on. With humidity the temperature was around 33 degrees towards the end of the ride.

The first part of the ride was on country roads through farmland and villages. It was quite picturesque and quite enjoyable riding. At about the 30 km mark we went on to a trail/ track that was an unused railway line. The surface was quite good and as we were descending it was quite good. Every now and then there was some mud which meant you needed to concentrate fairly heavily for the 30 kms or so of the ride.

At about the 20 km mark we had morning coffee in a small town called Creveccoure. The coffee and caramel cake were great.

We tried several places to get an ice cream or some lunch getting near Amiens with no luck so we made for our final destination accommodation.

Well…. Again we had difficulty as the address had us going to number 134 of the street for our accommodation….but there was no 134! There was 132 and 136 but only a street where 134 was supposed to be!

I spoke to a local who spoke English ( and French) and we rung to owner who said she would sort it out and ring us back as the apartment was not ready yet! So we went off and had a late lunch. This part of the mucking around had taken about an hour in the heat after we arrived at about 1.00 pm. After lunch we made our way back to the apartment and again we had no joy! So I sorted out another local and through the translation App we made contact with the apartment owner and they advised us through a text that we had been upgraded to a apartment in a different location closer to the central area. We made our way there and finally had some joy in getting into the apartment at about 3.30 pm.

We were relieved to get into the shower to cool down and enjoy a drink of cold water!!!!

Once again we responded to the challenges we faced and came through them with flying colours!

The day was remarkable in we had good warm weather and a relatively flat ride. We did 72 kms and climbed 316 metres
