Day 27- Kraiburg to Munich

In summary the word for today was RAIN and there was plenty of it!

Looking out the window the this morning there was water on the road but only a few “spots” of rain thankfully.

After breakfast and packing we were on the road by about 8.45 am. The temperature was a cool 12 degrees.

About 5 km in to the ride the clouds opened up and there was a constant drizzle which increased and the ride wore on. It was time to put on the rain gear!

The first stop for coffee and cakes was at Haag at about the 20 km mark. It was here that we had a good look at our route into Munich to see where could be altered ( read shortened) to save time with the rain starting to get worse. Thankfully there was a shorter route which was a bit more direct and cut about 8 km off the original route.

Moving on we made pretty good progress through to Parsdorf where we found a covered bus shelter to have our pre-prepared roll. This was filled with the leftover from last night’s dinner which was roast pork with salad. It was a good refuel at about 11.30 am at about the 60 km mark. We made quick work of the rolls and moved on so as to avoid getting cold as the weather continued to close in.

The rest of the ride was a real blur due to the rain and I was finding it very cool with the wind factor as we rode on.

The navigation into Munich was a real test for Chris who was chief navigator for the day.

We arrived at the hostel at about 1.15 pm which was great and we were able to get almost immediate check in thankfully. By this stage I was very cold and shivering so the boys let me shower first to thaw out. After the shower I rugged up in as much warm weather gear as I could muster and as I write this blog I am feeling warm …..

The next task was to sort out the washing….my role you remember….well the hostel has a washing machine and dryer…. Great! The only problem was you need to use an App and sorting out the App with my credit card triggered my card being declined…. I tried to enlist the help of Steve and it was hopeless for him as well! The plan B was then implemented which meant a walk of about 1 km to a public laundromat. Steve and I walked there and fortunately the rain had stopped….I sorted out the washing and drying without too much trouble and with a little help from the locals. Whilst waiting for the laundry we found a cafe and had coffee and a cake…. Chris later joined us which was great.

The city of Munich I saw from the ride in has some very large public buildings and is a Mecca for beer drinking during the Oktoberfest. It seems to be well laid out and the cycling paths seem to go everywhere.

We are now staying her 2 nights as I need to get my bike checked…. Having some problems changing gears on the front chainring…

I think drying out our shoes is also a good priority.

The hostel we are staying at is largely fit with younger guests and is very busy. We are in a 4 bed dorm with an en- suite bathroom and have the room to ourselves. Unfortunately we do not have the room tomorrow night and will have to move to another place.

Today we did about 77 kms and climbed 480 metres. I have now completed a total of almost 1500 kms on the ride. This milestone will be achieved when we hit the road again!!!

Today’s pictures are a bit light on due to the rain and our drive to get to Munich ASAP.

The route is in 2 photos because the Garmin navigation went into meltdown due to the rain

Me having mine!

Coffee and cakes waiting for the laundry

A photo of Steve and I trying to work the shower at last night’s accommodation… there are so many ways that showers work and I reckon on various trips we have struggled with them all as you see!

PS… the Dees had a good win over the Eagles to brighten the day!!!!
