Day 24-Tourist Day

During the rides over the past few days along the Mur River we have seen a narrow gauge railway which seemed quite interesting. On enquiry we found that it takes passengers and we could travel on it today. So up at about 6.00am… a sleep in…. and off to breakfast at this wonderful Pension. Breakfast for me was muesli with yogurt followed by scrambled eggs on toast followed by 2 slices of toast and homemade jam. A big breakfast for a non riding day!

We were away on our bikes to the bus station at Radstadt to meet the bus that would take us to the train station at Tamsweg. The bus took us over the pass that we made yesterday and it was great to see it from the other direction. We all made comments about various points of interest we saw on yesterday’s ride.

Arriving at the end of the bus journey we made our way to the station to catch the train. The train journey was about 2 hours and was again interesting as we covered this on our bikes in the past few days. The train terminus was at Unzmarkt. We thought this would be a good place for lunch if we could find a cafe…. But no cafe could be found! The cafe at the railway station was closed and the station was far from the town centre so we made do with some fruit we carried with us supplemented by a drink and a chocolate bar from the slot machine on the station platform. Not gourmet but enough for us all.

The return trip on the train and bus was over the same route and I must admit to having a bit of “shut eye “ for some of the trip. Doing the route now 2 times made me almost feel like a local. Arriving back at the bus depot we found our bikes were safe and sound after we locked them on the street earlier. The final ride back to our accommodation was a little difficult as we had to get our bearings again but thankfully Steve and Chris sorted this out.

We arrived beck at the Pension at about 5.00 pm and did some “servicing” to our bikes , particularly on the chain after a few days of hard riding. We are now set for thr next leg of our journey which takes us to Salzburg and Munich.
