Day 19- Rest Day in Bormio
It was great to have a bit of a sleep in this morning!
I was awake and up at about 8.30am which was a real change from the past few weeks!
After a shower we had a breakfast of cereal and croissants which was great. The croissants were fresh from the local bakery just down the road from our lovely accommodation.
The day was quite warm with high clouds and temperatures in the early twenties. Towards the end of the day the clouds increased and it became a bit cooler.
After breakfast, Steve and I went for a coffee in the city which was great to start the day. Coffee for both of us is a cappuccino.
Returning to the apartment we found Chris cleaning his bike so we followed suit and cleaned and oiled the chain. All good for the Stelvio climb tomorrow!
We then went for a short ride around Bormio which is a ski villain winter and a biking Mecca in the summer. We rode to the base station for the ski lifts where there was a cafe and had a love lunch of chicken salad.
After lunch it was back to the apartment to do a bit of planning for the next chunk of our ride through to Salzburg and to sort out who owes who in the giant spreadsheet system Steve is maintaining for the costs paid on the trip.
I kept an eye on the AFL scores noting the Dees lost by 5 points… they seem to have played better than recent games but could not score in the last quarter!
It was good to have a day off as tomorrow looks like being a real challenge with a climb of about 1500 metres over 21 kms with an average gradient of over 7%
After passing the top there is a big downhill!!! Something to look forward to. I got my brakes checked today as I am sure I will need them in good order for the descent tomorrow.
