Arrive at Rome

The flights from Melbourne to Rome with Etihad were quite okay despite being in economy!

The seats were quite comfortable which allowed for some sleep and the food was good. We had a stopover in Abu Dhabi for about 3 hours in the new terminal which is quite impressive. We both managed to get a shower to freshen up for the final 6 hour flight to Rome.

Both Chris and I arrived in Rome at about 7.00 am and decided to take an Uber to the hostel which seemed sensible but unfortunately the van could not take our boxed up bikes so we had to empty the contents to make the trip into Rome…..a bugger really but it meant we could travel in some comfort to our accommodation.

We arrived at about 9.00am and were able to get into our room by about 10.00 am which was good!

Chris assembled his bike on the street outside the hostel whilst I waited for the room. I then assembled my bike in the room…. All was complete by about midday in time for Steve Seymour to arrive to meet us. Steve travelled with Emirates Airlines and arrived at about 9.00pm yesterday and spent the night in a hotel near the airport. He assembled his bike at the hotel ahead of riding the 30 plus kms to the hostel where we are staying in Rome.

The hostel is very comfortable and we are in a s bed room all to out with an ensuite bathroom…. Such luxury!

After a shower we went for a walk to the Colosseum and the surrounding Roman ruins for a quick walk. The weather was quite pleasant really being in the mid twenties and quite sunny. There was plenty of tourists looking at the sights.

After seeing the tourist things we were hungry so enjoyed a bowl of pasta and a gelato at a cafe. Good food!

The walk did us all the world of good to blow out the cobwebs and enjoy some fresh air!

On arrival back at the hostel both Steve and I spent some time sorting out the mobile phone connection with Orange… this whole mobile phone setup globally is a real mess and needs some easy way of staying connected when travelling overseas.

Today was not a riding day … this might happen tomorrow!

Good to get to Rome safely with our bikes and luggage and the adventure begins.

Here are a few tourist pictures in Rome including one of the 3 of us enjoying some pasta in a cafe.
